Academic Direction and Coordination

The academic direction of the KOSMOS Summer University is conducted by Prof. Dr. Hannes Grandits and Prof. Dr. Christian Voß. Dr. Nenad Stefanov and the student assistant Iwi Hagenau coordinate the project.

 

Prof. Dr. Hannes Grandits

Leitung Hannes GranditsHannes Grandits is professor of South-East European History at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and currently also the managing director of the Department of History. He was involved in different research endeavors dealing with the topic of borders, for instance, in the framework of the project "Triplex confinium – Multiple Borderlands in an Euro-Mediterranean Context". Since 2011 he leads the sub-project "The Revival of Phantom Borders in South-Eastern Europe" within the framework of the BMBF-funded research project "Phantomborders". Here he co-authored together with B. v. Hirschhausen, C. Kraft, D. Müller u. T. Serrier the recently published book "Phantomgrenzen. Räume und Akteure in der Zeit neu denken" (Göttingen: Wallstein Verlag 2015).

 

Prof. Dr. Christian Voß

Leitung Christian VoßSince 2008 Christian Voß is professor for South Slavic Language and Cultural Studies at the Department of Slavic Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin. His research focuses on the South Slavic-Greek language bounder in the Southern Balkans and addresses the interface of Sociolinguistics, History and Ethnology. He is principal investigator in several research projects financed by German Research Foundation (DFG) dealing with sociolinguistics and contact linguistics in the Balkans. Since 2008 he serves as the Vice_Dean at the Philosophical Faculty II at Humboldt University.

 

Dr. Nenad Stefanov

Koordination Nenad StefanovDr. Nenad Stefanov is a historian and works currently in the project “Phantom Borders in East-Central Europe” at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His research centers on the establishment of borders in the post-ottoman societies in the Central-Balkans and their transformation in Phantom-Borders during the 20th century. Another main area of research is intellectual history, particularly transfers of ideas between Southeastern and Western Europe.

 

 

Iwi Hagenau

Koordination Iwi HagenauIwi Hagenau studied German-Czech relations at the University of Regensburg and the Charles University in Prague. In her bachelor´s thesis she broaches the issue of “Anti-Romani Sentiment in Czech and German Media”. Currently she studies Cultures of Central and Eastern Europe at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Her major field of study is Czech and Southeast European literature and history. Her master´s thesis deals with the construct of the Central Eastern concept of history based on Mariusz Szczygieł´s bestseller Gottland and its film adaption.

 

Anja Jahn

Anja Jahn graduated from the Universitiy of Vienna in Slavic Studies, Political Science and Cultural and Social Anthropology. Her bachelor theses related to Lower Sorbian language policy and to the concept of the pilgrim in Adam Mickiewicz's work. Currently she is student of the master program 'Cultures of Central and Eastern Europe' at Humboldt-Universität. Her master thesis focuses on the relation between space and identity constructions in recent Polish poetry.
